A short story – Little Guddu

A short story – Little Guddu came home running barefooted from outside and told. his mother while gasping for breath ,” Ma have you seen the bull Shaikh Sahib has brought to sacrifice on Eid ul Adha, there is a long queue to see that bull. Its really big and beautiful. Maa what we will sacrifice on Eid ul Adha ?” He asked excitedly. His mother was busy cooking food for the family got choked on Guddu’s question….. She hugged him tightly and replied while kissing his forehead, “son we are poor and cannot afford to buy any animal to sacrifice, but don’t be sad we will be able to sacrifice an animal one day. “Guddu was unfazed by his mother’s reply and replied “but maa…they say neither the meat nor the blood goes to Allah and Allah only see the intentions and reward us based on that and they also say that sacrifice that animal which is dearer to you so that you can feel the spirit of sacrifice truly, isn’t it correct maa? Guddu asked. His mother replied yes son you are right, Guddu smiled and said proudly I will sacrifice maa, I have a cricket bat which is very dear to me and you know Aslam, the boy who lives in a hut near the ground, he came to play today with us and he liked my bat very much and asked me the price, I told him the price is 100 rupees and suddenly he become sad, I felt he or his parents cannot afford to buy the bat for him, so I will give my bat to him in the name of Allah, then Allah will be happy with me maa? His mother hugged him again and said yes son Allah will surely be happy with you as you have understood the true essence of sacrifice and you are doing it in a best way which most of the people couldn’t understand. The EndJust think, what Guddu thought and decided to do, we do bring large beautiful animals and we should do that if we afford but do we have the same spirit as of Guddu or we just do that in competition with others? Allah will accept our sacrifice on the basis of our intent behind it not based on the size and weight of the animal we sacrifice. May Allah make us all understand the true spirit of Eid ul Adha and may Allah accept whatever we do sacrifice on this Eid. Aameen
